Efficient sourcing for a Tier 1 supplier

The Goal
SNECI was tasked to find new suppliers for one of its in Italy.
 
SNECI’s Role
SNECI found two suppliers in Italy for Valeo. The project involved the supply of relatively simple parts that were delivered from Italy to Slovakia and France at a rate of 60,000 parts a day. “We searched through our network. As we have been working over the years with over 2,000 suppliers worldwide, we have access to a priceless database,” recalls Denis Picco, one of SNECI’s production experts. “We ended up identifying 51 companies in that field. We then analysed information gathered about the identified suppliers to narrow down the list to 18 companies to whom we sent a RFI/RFQ package. We then selected six suppliers based on their answers, which we visited for a one- to two-day pre-assessment, depending on the size of the company. We eventually selected two companies,” says Picco. The two Italian suppliers are family-owned medium enterprises who would never have had the chance to be presented to this big client, 250 employees for one, and 150 for the other. Both of them have great potential to grow with this new client. “It is interesting to note that we had worked with one company some years ago. The other was the number one supplier of one of the top German suppliers we work with. This shows the strength of our network. Additionally, we had total confidence in these two companies,” says Picco.
 
SNECI’s Added Value
As SNECI is doing other missions with this customer, we understood perfectly what the customer was looking for and were able to propose suppliers that had been identified as having the potential to respond to the specific needs. The time saved was a key selection criteria for us. In this instance, SNECI was able to issue its recommendations in three months.
 
Moreover, SNECI did a lot of upstream work teaching and sensitizing the potential suppliers to the expectations of the client and making sure that they understood them well and took them into account in the proposal. This enabled both suppliers to be in production in less than a year after being selected.
 
The added value from SNECI is found in its capacity to be the link between different companies and different cultures. "Companies trust us and that is the key to our success,” concludes Picco.
